EPHESIANS

- The Apostle To The Gentiles –

3:1-13

The Flow of Ephesians:

1. Ch. 1-3 = “How blessed I am!”   _Appreciation

2. Ch. 4:1-6:9 = “What must I do?”   _Adjustments

3. Ch.6:10-24 = “How can I STAND?”  _Armed

POINT: God’s VISION for us must become our VISION for us.

->take ownership for becoming like Jesus _with the help of

           God’s Word, God’s Spirit, and God’s People.

THEME: Mature in Christ… “Grow up spiritually.”

3:1-13 = Paul’s explanation of his unique role in the fulfillment of

God’s purposes for us Gentiles as part of the CHURCH.

A. God’s Purposes involve Commissioning a Man   1-5

Paul’s life was transformed _character, and attitude toward Gentiles

- a prisoner of Christ 1, a servant 7, due to salvation (Acts 9); his

calling from God (Acts 9:15), his frustration with the Jews (13:36-48)

- due to God’s grace, and God’s revelation to him   cf. 2 Peter 1:20 ,21

B. God’s Purposes involve Communicating a Message   6-9

- “mystery” refers to the present compared to the past

- “mystery” revealed thru the Gospel  6  cf. 1:13…Defined: 6, 2:11-22

…though revealed NOW, it was part of God’s eternal purpose 11

C. God’s Purposes involve the Church’s Mandate   10-12

= to reveal the manifold wisdom of God to those in heavenly realms  10,

and to those on planet earth    Romans 11:33; 16:25-27

- the Church consists of those who by faith in God may approach Him

  12   cf. Hebrews 10:19-23

D. God’s Purposes involve the Christ-follower’s Main-stay   13

- God’s purposes are firm, eternal, and will continue to their fulfillment

= our main support in all of life’s circumstances.  “Trust Me!”

- This is reason for encouragement _helping the Christ-follower keep

a God-centered perspective, counter-balancing the tendency to be

disheartened or discouraged.  God is in control! He is Sovereign!
