“Together” a People Unique


- Transformed by Christ –


 


Ephesians 4:1-6:9


- “Together” Preserving the Unity          God had revealed Himself as


- “Together” Preparing for Usefulness    DISTINCT (Psa. 115:3-12),       


- “Together” a People Unique                  above all gods.


***God calls His people to be unique; He distinguishes believers from those not yet His people.  “How could one tell the difference?”


- Deut.12:29-32 – as they enter Canaan                             MARKS


- Jesus: “By this will all men know…”  (John 13:35)           of the


- Matt. 5:16 –“Let your light so shine…”                     Christ-follower


- 1 Pet. 2:12 – “Live such good lives…”


NOTE: “a PECULIAR people” (KJV -1 Pet.2:9; Titus 2:14) as a people


             belonging to God; Deut. 7:6, 14:2 = distinct behavior


TODAY: Transformed by Christ


 


A. Transformed by the Choice of a Different Path   20-21


- “in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus”   cf. Heb.1:9


- delivered from a destructive path by Christ   cf, 2:1-9


 


B. Transformed by a Commitment to a Disciplined Process   22-24


= a continual response to God _disciplined, devoted, diligent


1. Put Off Your Old Self


= not listen to former sources of direction; say, “No” to sin.


- defined in Galatians 5:19-21; Eph.2:3; 4:17-19 = enslaved


- Rom.6:11-13 = Say when tempted, “I am DEAD to that sin.”


2. Renew the Attitude Of Your Mind


- in the teaching of Christ re: way of life and truth   Rom. 12:2;


   Phil. 4:8, 9; Colossians 3:10


- becoming MATURE involves self-feeding = a Discipline ***ENCOURAGEMENT = the Mind CAN be Renewed


3. Put On the New Self


= God-likeness, righteousness and holiness   Gal.5:22, 23


- as in Col. 3:5-17 _with the help of the Holy Spirit


- a continual transformation
